Go Girls! Camp is produced by Spotlight: Girls, a benefit corporation that is making the world a safer, more loving place – one girl at a time. Founded by Lynn Johnson & Allison Kenny, partners in life and business, Go Girls! learn and practice the essential social/emotional skills that will help keep them happy, healthy, and safe in their lives and relationships. In addition to producing Go Girls! Camp, Spotlight: Girls is also the publisher of Starring Celia, a chapter book written by co-founder, Allison Kenny and illustrated by Thorina Rose. Starring Celia is the story of a fourth grade girl who experiences painful name-calling – and responds by slapping the girl who bullied her. But when Celia enrolls in a Go Girls! Camp, she learns to stand up for herself in peaceful and powerful ways.
During September, Go Girls! teaching artists will make the Kidpower Protection Promise and the Kidpower Put Safety First Commitment, share our commitments publicly via video, and encourage other adults in our networks to do the same. We are also producing Telling: A Celebration of Girlhood, a community storytelling event in Berkeley, CA aimed at bringing attention to Child Protection Month by bringing the community to celebrate, activate, and advocate for our girls.
