Parentpower: Safety for Young Children
Learn what’s included – and how to join or organize a live online program!
English | Español
Long before they can talk or move on their own, babies are learning from their adults about what it means to be safe and to be important. This means you can begin empowering children from birth – while also staying in charge of protecting them from harm while they grow and learn!
We’re here to help you make the most of every opportunity in your daily life to protect and empower babies and young children in ways that are fun, positive, and practical, not scary.
In this live online program, parents and caregivers learn skills to:
- protect babies and very young children from abuse, kidnapping, and other harm
- assess and choose safe caregivers for your child
- introduce and talk about safety without being scary
- teach ‘people safety’ as confidently as they teach manners, hygiene, and car safety
Plus, you’ll learn ways to help young children build age-appropriate skills to:
- set boundaries – including about body autonomy
- protect their feelings
- stay in charge of their bodies
- ask for help
- follow the Safety Plan if they get lost
- follow your Stranger Safety rules
- check first with their grownups before they change their plan about where they are going, what they are doing, and who they are with.
You can enroll in a Parentpower: Safety for Young Children Community Workshop organized by Kidpower whenever one is open for registration on our Community Workshops page – or, you can organize one for your own group!
Community Workshops make up about 5% of our services and are open for anyone to enroll. Each has an individual per-screen enrollment cost, and we have a generous scholarship policy.
Most workshop types and topics are offered Community Workshops 1-5 times a year – and are organized much more often by people like you for their own school, agency, business, group, or community.
These privately organized workshops make up about 95% of our services. They are NOT listed on our Workshops page, because the groups themselves decide who to include.
Privately organized workshops have a per-class class, not a per-screen or per-participant cost. All costs include one-on-one email support with questions before & after the workshop and links to resources to help you & your family apply, adapt, and practice the skills.
