For parents, guardians, and other caring adults, it is normal to feel worried when we learn about children being harmed by people who were entrusted with their care. And this feeling gets compounded when we hear about schools, youth-serving organizations, and communities failing to take action to address problems immediately to prevent further harm.
However, just worrying and talking about the bad things that might happen does not make our kids safer – it just makes all of us more anxious.
In order to help you turn worry into positive action, Dr. Amy Tiemann and I are offering a special Parentpower workshop on Creating An Action Plan To Protect Your Family’s Safety.
This program will be held on Wednesday April 26 from 4-5:30 PM Pacific Daylight Time (check your local time zone here).
Amy is my co-author for our best-selling book Doing Right by Our Kids: Protecting Child Safety at All Levels and co-creator of our online program, Full Circle Safety for K-12 Educators – Protecting Children From Abuse and Human Trafficking. Her child protection expertise has helped many schools recover after an abuse case has traumatized their community.
Together, we will explain and practice how to use key child protection strategies and Kidpower skills to keep our children and teens safe including:
- Perceive. Believe. Act.
- Using our Intuition
- Understanding The Illusion of Safety and The Power of the Situation
- Managing our Positive and Negative Emotional Triggers
- Recognizing and assessing risks
- Asking questions and setting boundaries
- Overcoming obstacles so we are prepared to: Put Safety FIRST
Our goal is to help you to develop your own Family Safety Action Plan so that you will be better prepared to keep your kids safe at home; with family, friends, and neighbors; at school; in recreational activities; online; and everywhere they go. You will have the opportunity to ask questions to make this relevant for your specific concerns.
A recording will be available for registrants after the workshop, showing JUST the presenters, not the participants. We are providing this special program at a greatly reduced fee of $25 – and scholarships are available so that you will be able to participate regardless of your ability to pay.
Please share this invitation with people you know and let us know if you have any questions.
