Author | Permission to Use Info

Since Kidpower was established in 1989, we have been committed to keeping people’s personal information private and to respecting their wishes about use of their information. Of course, the growth of the Internet has brought new challenges to protecting online privacy as well as new opportunities for sharing important resources – and we have been doing our best to stay up with the times.

Because of the stricter policies established by the European Union (EU), we want to be sure that you know what we are doing and have always been doing both to safeguard your information and to continue to respect your wishes about our contacts with you.

The bottom line is:

1. We never sell anyone’s personal information for any reason. We also do not share information publicly about anyone unless we have been given direct permission by this person or they have shared something in a public forum such as an online endorsement.

2. We use only established providers with a track record for keeping information safe to enable subscriptions to our newsletter and informational mailings, such as this one; online donations; class registrations; eBook and paid membership purchases; and contact management. We are checking with each of these providers to be sure that they are meeting the EU standards.

3. People who we contact have agreed to be contacted – by requesting information, making a purchase on our website, donating, or by signing up for a membership, newsletter, workshop, or educational resource downloads online, by phone, or on paper.

4. We only want to contact people who are willing to be contacted. People can unsubscribe from our newsletters or announcements at any time by using the unsubscribe function in their email – or by contacting us directly at safety@kidpower.org and asking to be unsubscribed. Sometimes people have used more than one email address and/or name to sign up for resources or services with us and we might need to have them let us know these contacts in order to completely stop our communications and outreach to them.

5. People can ask to have their information deleted completely from all our records, except for information that we need to keep internally for a period of time for legal or financial reasons, such as a “do not contact” list, employment records, workshop attendees, payment records, waivers, and donations. This information is not publicly available – but we do need to keep this kind of information in our internal records.

6. We use cookies on our website to enable login services for our free and paid resource library memberships, resource download requests, and for deriving analytics to help us understand, and only for our internal use, how and when people are using our website, what they click on, and where they are from in aggregate. Our cookie-based data gathering includes IP addresses, date and timestamps, and login/logoff instances. We do not collect any other personal information via cookies about our website users and the website usage data we do gather is never sold, traded, or otherwise shared publicly.

Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions.
