Thanks to Kidpower’s training, a child with profound hearing loss got help to escape physical abuse!

“I teach a classroom of young children who are deaf and hard of hearing. The day after our specialized Kidpower workshop, six-year-old Elisa signed to me, “Kidpower says problems should not be secret!” She then showed me the marks on her bottom made by her father’s belt. Just like I had practiced with Kidpower, I thanked her for telling me. But as you can imagine, I was both angry and dismayed – and realized I had to do something. But what?

I knew that Elisa’s father had recently lost his job, and no one in her family knew sign language, so communication at home was difficult. However, thanks to Kidpower, I was prepared with the skills to stay calm and advocate for Elisa’s safety. We were able to intervene successfully with this family so that the parents developed skills for anger management, parenting, and using sign language.

And, thanks to Kidpower, Elisa learned that her power to tell could change her life!” ~ Mary Z., Deaf-Education Teacher

Right now, we have the power to stop much of tomorrow’s abuse with greater awareness, action, and skills. Just knowing how to tell and keep telling can make a world of difference in the safety of our kids. Please make a donation to Kidpower today!

Your gift to Kidpower helps to provide safety skills training to kids of all ages and their adults in families, schools, and organizations, empowering them to take charge of their safety.
