Our Global Reach

No other personal safety skills organization in the world has Kidpower’s global reach and impact.

Taught live in more than 20 languages on six continents, Kidpower also provides the world’s largest free multilingual personal safety skills resource library available online to everyone, everywhere.

“In my 25-year career of working with NGOs that support human rights and child protection, I keep seeing that, although awareness, relief services, and laws are important, they are not enough.

Vulnerable people, especially children and women, need safety, advocacy, and self-defense skills so they can protect themselves from abuse, violence, and exploitation.

Thanks to Kidpower International’s outstanding curriculum and tremendous ongoing support, we have been successful in training over 8,000 children and adults in impoverished rural municipalities in Nepal!”

~ Shusma Pokhrel,
Kidpower International Director for Nepal

Our Impact in Numbers

Behind every number, you’ll find a story.

We’re proud of our 2024 numbers!

However, our true impact is not in the numbers themselves…

It’s in the countless stories of bullying ended, harm avoided, peace restored, & suffering stopped.

It’s in the stories of the joy that returns when confidence and skills grow strong.

Preventing Harm

Together with caring adults like you, we’re changing tomorrow’s stories of harm into stories of safety, confidence, & success!

All 20,000+ participants in our 2024 live online and in-person workshops had the opportunity to practice
age-appropriate, ability-appropriate skills they can use for the rest of their lives to prevent, avoid, de-escalate, or end bullying, abuse, and other harm. 3,500 more used our self-paced courses to learn & teach these skills!

“One of my therapy clients kept having nightmares about her abuser coming after her, even after months of therapy.

We used Kidpower’s positive practice to pretend someone was about to bother her. I coached her to put her hands up and say, ‘STOP!’ She practiced leaving, going to her parents, and saying, ‘I need help.’

After several sessions of practicing, she told me that her nightmares had stopped!“

– John Luna-Sparks, Licensed Clinical
Social Worker and Kidpower Trainer

“The importance of these workshops for our community cannot be overstated.

LGBTQ+ families often face unique challenges.

By empowering parents with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence to address issues of safety and bullying, Kidpower workshops directly contribute to the well-being and resilience of our families.”

– Aya Wilson Program Director,
Our Family Coalition

“My son came home from school and announced, ‘It WORKS! It WORKS!’ He had used his Kidpower Mini Trash Can when some kids were saying mean things to him.

Instead of feeling bad, he had so much fun throwing the words away that he went around the school secretly throwing away every hurtful word he heard, even words directed at others!

He said he felt powerful and happy to be able to get rid of all the mean words floating around.”

Improving Relationships

GOOD NEWS! The skills to prevent harm ALSO strengthen relationships of all kinds!

The people we reached in 2024 are now more prepared to set boundaries, regulate their emotions, think first before speaking, and ask for help – calmly, confidently, and respectfully. One skill at a time, we are all taking action to improve communication!

“I regret not living more years to be able to take advantage of all this.

The children need this so much, and I couldn’t give these skills to my children. I didn’t know.

Now, I know, and I can use them myself in addition to teaching them to children.

Even though it is late in my life, I learned a lot from you, and I am very grateful!”

– A grateful grandparent

“CASA volunteers often need support navigating boundary-setting with youth and adults involved in their cases,
resolving conflict between team members, and taking care of their own emotional wellbeing.

Kidpower provided volunteers with skills to use themselves – as well as skills to teach to and model for their youth!”

– Isabel Bloom, Manager of Volunteer Relations, CASA of Los Angeles

“Not long after we took Kidpower with our son, my husband made a comment about my clothes. It wasn’t cruel – but it also wasn’t necessary.

Our son looked up, then calmly said, ‘Mom, let’s practice using the Kidpower Trash Can to throw those words away!’

He coached us both to throw away the unkind words and say to ourselves, ‘I like my clothes!’ We all laughed – and have each been more kind with words since then!”

– An appreciative mother

Safer Communities

Together with caring adults in their own communities, we are working to create safer families, schools, and neighborhoods.

Parents, educators, and other caring adults are the best ones to protect and empower their communities. The strategies we teach can help them achieve those goals even more effectively! In 2024, we collaborated with over 300 partners worldwide to teach skills for creating safer families, schools, workplaces, and communities.

“Kidpower’s focus is on empowerment, not victimization.

Our community has experienced traumatic events: severe poverty, wildfires, high drug use. They feel anything BUT empowered. Kidpower tools & resources empower people to take control of their lives again. I don’t know of a greater gift that we could give to kids.”

– Carla Truttman, Director, School-Based Mental Health & Wellness Program, Siskiyou County Office of Education

“We have experienced a surge in children entering our classrooms with high dysregulation, challenging behaviors, and special needs.

Our teachers have struggled significantly with keeping children safe in the classroom, as so many arrive with little or no language, frequent tantrums, and strong inclination to hurt others. Kidpower workshops for our staff, students, and parents have all supported our community to learn and practice safer behaviors!”

– Sunshine Wu Fisher, LCSW, Mental Health Coordinator, Izzi Early Education

People with Disabilities

In 2024, over 2,000 people with disabilities and their supporters gained new skills for taking charge of their safety!

While people with disabilities face a higher risk of all types of harm than their peers, our Safetypowers skills prepare them to pursue their dreams with less fear – and more confidence and joy!

“Our Kidpower workshops were informative, deeply engaging, and catered to the needs of youth with disabilities. The Kidpower team’s commitment to empowering families and promoting safety and inclusion was evident throughout each session. The knowledge and skills our families gained from these sessions will undoubtedly have a lasting impact!”

– Patricia Idrugo, Supervisor, FRC San Mateo County

“Learning Safetypowers safety skills for myself – and then learning how to teach Safetypowers skills to others – makes me feel like I did when I rode horses. I thought I had lost that feeling forever – and now, it’s BACK!”

– Safetypowers participant with disabilities, now teaching others as a Safetypowers Ambassador

We do serve employees; we do serve students—but we also provide support to their families as well. We recognize our members not just as employees and students, but as parents and caretakers, sons and daughters—dynamic individuals—and I believe that this new partnership showcases that perspective.”
